The chapter started in 1999 as some seniors and juniors felt a need to increase student involvement in the department. Help sessions for the sophomore chemical engineering classes were started, and preparations were made for organizing the Science Fair that is now an annual event. After a year of the organization establishment, chartering was formally submitted for.
Chartering
After a year and a half of hard work, we became the Beta Tau Chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon on February 27, 2001. The day began with the presentation of the charter by Dr. Richard Davis from University of Minnesota, Duluth, and the national secretary. This presentation took place during the BASF dedication of the newest technical classroom in the Chemical Sciences building.
That evening, new members were inducted and the chartering members were given their diplomas. It was a great day for all members in the group, as the chartering procedure was a great accomplishment.
Future Events
Everything currently in place will continue, and plans are being made for more groups events to involve the CM department. Any ideas of events to participate in can be sent to oce@mtu.edu .
