From : Deborah M. Segesta Add to Address Book Date : Thu, 9 Mar 2000 20:36:08 -0500 (EST) Subject : Meeting Minutes, 3/9/00 To: oce-l@mtu.edu Hello everyone, Here's what happened at the meeting, in case you missed it. Fundraiser - We raised $27 from the pop can collection. We will continue to collect cans, so remember to dispose of your empty pop cans in our collection garbage cans located throughout the Chem Sci. Dinner with Curt Tompkins - This dinner is on April 6, which coincides with the Kinetics exam. Christine is going to talk with Dr. Mullins to see if other arrangements can be made to take the test early. We are also tentatively planning on having a group photo taken the night of the dinner. New Member Initiation - Letters to prospective members will be sent out next week. We are planning on having them at our 3rd week meeting. The initiation banquet will be Tuesday, April 25. The new members will be formally initiated in accordance with the National requirements. Dues - When we become a national organization, the dues are $15. It was decided that every spring these dues will be paid. All current members will have to pay these dues, even though some of us are graduating. But remember, we haven't paid any dues yet since we've been in the organization. Faculty Awards - A tentative schedule for organizing the awards was decided on. It is as follows: 5th week Advertising 5th - 7th Nominations 7th - 9th Voting 9thTotal the votes The awards will be given at the convocation on May 11. Only Juniors and Seniors will be voting on these awards for the student vote because they know more of the professors and are probably more qualified to vote. Science Fair We still need more judges. If you know of ANYONE, either in the faculty or the community, who would be interested, please let Brian Zielke know. You can e-mail him at bjzielke@mtu.edu. Let them know that they need to be at the science fair from 9 to 3 on March 18. For family Activities, we are thinking of having 4 main experiments and also videos and coloring. During the science fair, most of us will be helping in the family activities area. The assignments for what people will be doing during the science fair will be decided at the next meeting, which is next week. We are also planning on having overall school awards for each grade, which will be decided by average points. Well, that is about it for this meeting. Please show up to the science fair at 8AM. Remember it is next Saturday, March 18. And we also have a meeting next Thursday at 6:00. By the way, check out our website at www.sos.mtu.edu/oce. Thanks to Brian Crawford, who created our web page.
